MARIJUANA IS NOT OK

Blessings in the Mighty Name of Yeshua Hamashiach!

In recent years, marijuana use has become increasingly normalized, with more and more people accepting it as a harmless or even beneficial substance. Whether for recreational or medicinal purposes, weed has found its way into the mainstream culture, often promoted as a way to relax, relieve stress, or enhance creativity. But as believers, we need to look beyond societal trends and explore the deeper spiritual implications of marijuana use. The Bible warns us about sorcery, sin, and the spiritual warfare that we face daily, and understanding the demonic roots and effects of substances like weed is critical for living a life pleasing to God.

Yesterday, I had a student in my class who was behaving erratically and hallucinating. His behavior was the result of him having eaten two weed gummies. Marijuana is connected to sorcery and witchcraft. In the Bible, the Greek word "pharmakeia" is used to describe sorcery, and it’s where we get the word "pharmacy" from. In biblical times, sorcery involved the use of drugs and potions to alter consciousness and invite demonic influence. This use of mind-altering substances is associated with rebellion against God and opening oneself up to demonic deception.

Proverbs 25:28 (KJV) warns:

“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”

Marijuana is more than just a recreational drug; it is a tool of spiritual warfare that the enemy uses to deceive, distract, and destroy. Weed’s connection to sorcery, its ability to alter the mind, and its role in opening doors to sin make it a dangerous substance for believers. As Christians, we are called to be sober-minded, filled with the Holy Spirit, and fully dependent on God’s truth—not mind-altering substances.

1 John 1:9 KJV

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Shalom
