(Please Read 1 Kings 17:1-9)
The phrase "when the brook dries up" is often used metaphorically to describe a period of hardship or change, particularly when reliance on something or someone is no longer available. It's rooted in the biblical story of Elijah, the prophet, who was instructed by God to hide by a brook, which later dried up, signifying a shift in God's provision and direction.
In the Old Testament, the prophet Elijah was told to hide by the Brook Cherith, where ravens provided him with food and the nearby brook with water.
However, the brook eventually dried up due to a drought, and Elijah was then instructed to go to Zarephath and be provided for by a widow.
This event is often interpreted as a time of trial and a sign of God's redirection, emphasizing reliance on God's provision even when familiar sources of support fail.
