John 10:10 AMPC
[10] The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
John 10:10 presents a stark contrast between the thief and Jesus. The thief represents negative influences in our lives that aim to take away our joy, peace, and ultimately, our hope. On the other hand, Jesus offers something radically different—*life in abundance*. Understanding this contrast is vital. It highlights the difference between merely existing and truly living. But what does “living life to the full” really mean?
When Jesus speaks of having life to the full, He isn’t just talking about material wealth or physical well-being. Instead, He refers to a rich, fulfilling existence that encompasses: – Spiritual Fulfillment: Experiencing a close relationship with God. – Emotional Well-being: Achieving peace and joy amidst life’s challenges. – Community Connection: Building meaningful relationships with others. In essence, John 10:10 encourages individuals to seek more than just survival; it invites us to thrive.
